December 2010
Bon Secours VolunteersThis December, fifteen volunteers from Bon Secours Richmond Health System and another group of four from Dominion Virginia Power teamed up together at the CARITAS Furniture Bank to repair 100 cots for the CARITAS Shelter. During the winter months, there is an increase in homeless needing shelter; therefore, this gift of service could not have come at a better time. Several of the Bon Secours volunteers on site that day were already familiar with the needed repairs, having handled a similar project the year before, and despite the cold conditions inside the warehouse, they graciously stayed beyond their scheduled three and a half hour time frame to complete all the cots.
Bon Secours VolunteersThis particular project beautifully represents the collaborative effort that goes into CARITAS’s success. We are a three-pronged organization that not only serves a common goal but also shares resources and even volunteers, many of whom are cross-trained in the various aspects of each of our programs. These types of volunteers are especially flexible in serving our immediate needs, which often fluctuate. We are thankful for all the hard work December’s volunteers put in to prepare for a new year at CARITAS.
