AmeriCorps is a network of service programs offering the opportunity for individuals of all ages and backgrounds to serve and meet community needs.  Members address the most critical problems in the areas of education, economic opportunity, veteran and military family services, health, the environment, and disaster services.  In exchange for a specified term of service, AmeriCorps members earn a living allowance as well as an educational award to pay back qualified student loans or to finance college, graduate school or vocational training.

Members enrolled in our program serve in the Richmond area connecting individuals experiencing homelessness to community resources; providing essential furniture and household items for adults and families moving from crisis to permanent housing; mentoring men moving through our recovery program; and, providing an intensive workforce development program.   CARITAS has been involved with the AmeriCorps program since 2009 as a placement site and as a grantee since 2013.

Since becoming a grantee CARITAS has recruited 37 National Service members. Approximately 59% gained employment during or after service as a result of their experience as a National Service member.
