CARITAS is excited to welcome three new team members to our staff: Charles Stafford as Senior Director of Human Resources and Culture, Stacy Buchanan as Director of Marketing and Communications, and Josh Rockett as Community Engagement Manager. These individuals will provide key leadership in important strategic areas, adding strength and talent as our organization continues to grow.

Charles Stafford joins CARITAS as Senior Director of Human Resources and Culture.

A native Baltimorean, Charles brings more than 20 years of HR experience to CARITAS. He most recently served as Division Director of Human Resources at CommuniCare Health Services.

In his decades-long career, Stafford has designed, implemented, managed, and administered HR, payroll, and benefits systems solutions for nonprofit organizations and Fortune 500 corporations.

Charles holds a bachelor’s in communications from Towson University in Maryland and an MBA in HR management from Strayer University, as well as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certificate from the Society for HR Management (SHRM). An avid golfer, Charles loves to cook, travel, and spend time with his 27-year-old son and 25-year-old daughter.

“The people and the mission are what drew me to CARITAS,” says Charles. “They are by far the best part about working here.”

Stacy Buchanan joins CARITAS as Marketing and Communications Advisor.

A Richmond native, Stacy founded her marketing company, Wythe Ave Consulting, in 2016 after serving as marketing director at MWV/WestRock. While Stacy will be the primary face we see on campus and in virtual meetings, she’s supported by an entire team of writers, project managers, and graphic and web designers.

Stacy and the team at Wythe Ave have supported numerous other Richmond nonprofits including HousingForward VA, Better Housing Coalition, Virginia Supportive Housing, CA Human Services, Robins Foundation, and Richmond Memorial Health Foundation.

Stacy holds a bachelor’s in marketing management from Virginia Tech and an MBA from VCU. She enjoys reading, cooking healthy food, and taking the occasional yoga retreat to make sure her own bucket is filled. She lives in Midlothian with her husband, two kids, and two rescue dogs.

“I am incredibly excited to be working with the team of sharp, mission-driven folks at CARITAS,” says Stacy, “as well as the opportunity to bring together my corporate and nonprofit experiences in support of CARITAS’ mission.”

Josh Rockett joins CARITAS as Community Engagement Manager.

Josh comes to CARITAS with a wealth of experience in the nonprofit field, specifically in food and housing access, assistance, and relief. In his new role, he will be responsible for connecting funds, supplies, and people with the needs of our program participants.

Josh most recently served as Executive Director for Local Food Hub, a nonprofit focused on increasing community access to local food in Charlottesville, Virginia. Prior to joining Local Food Hub, Josh served as the Program Manager for ACTS, helping people remain stably housed through the COVID pandemic, and as the Outreach Coordinator at St. Stephens Episcopal Church. Before moving to Richmond in 2018, Josh worked for eight years at an international food relief organization in the Chicago area.

Josh holds a certificate of non-profit executive leadership from the University of Notre Dame and a Masters of Divinity from North Park Theological Seminary. He loves all things outdoors, traveling, music, and making art. He currently lives in the Church Hill neighborhood of Richmond with his wife and their yellow lab mix, Dylan.

“I think CARITAS has a really neat holistic approach, especially the way in which it uses volunteers,” says Josh. “Volunteers support every single program and service that we have. And when people give their time and talent to help us, they’re not just helping the people in our programs; they’re impacting the health of the whole community in greater Richmond.”
